Florence Matthews

Florence Matthews, 89, of Columbus, GA passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the Columbus Hospice House.  A funeral service will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Monday, June 3, 2019 beginning at 2:00 PM with Robert G. Matthews officiating.  A private interment will conclude at Parkhill Cemetery. 

Florence was born on February 2, 1930 in Columbus, GA to the late George and Ruth Huff.  She was employed by the Medical Center, where she worked in several different job positions before retiring after thirty years of service.  One of her favorite hobbies was that of drawing.  Her family, however, was her heart.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Florence will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but she will always be remembered for her loving heart and caring spirit.

Other than her parents, Florence is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Retired Assistant Police Chief of Columbus, Robert H. Matthews.

Survivors include her sons, Robert G. Matthews (Cynthia) of Columbus, GA and Michael B. Matthews (Janice) of Smiths Station, AL; sister, Evelyn Easson of Rockville, IN; grandchildren, Ryan Matthews (Tara) of Columbus, GA and Kellan Jenkins (Patrick) of Cumming, GA; great-grandchildren, Savannah Matthews, Parker Matthews, Amelia Jenkins, and Cameron Jenkins; step-grandchildren, Robin Fuller (Ricky) of Smiths Station, AL and Janeice Orr (John) of Ackworth, GA; step-great-grandchildren, Rhett Fuller and Julianna Orr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Animal Ark Rescue, 7133 Sacerdote Lane, Columbus, GA 31907.
