Hazel Benefield Smith, 86, of Smiths Station, AL, loving wife, mother, and friend to many, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 15, 2021.
Private services will be held at a later date and she will be buried in in Evergreen Memory Gardens in Columbus, GA.
Mrs. Smith was born September 19, 1934 in Tifton, GA daughter of the late Thomas Mitchell Benefield and Katherine Faulk Benefield. She was a homemaker and an active member of First Assembly of God, Phenix City, AL.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 20 years, Gene Autry Smith and a daughter, Betty Martin; five brothers, Jacob Curtis Benefield, Freeman Benefield, George Benefield, John Benefield and Pleman Benefield; a sister, Barbara Moore.
Survivors include her son: Joseph Titus Martin, GA; four daughters: Kathy Martin, Savannah, GA, Judy Martin, Valley, AL, Janet Sokolay, Middleburg, FL and Sharon Harrell, St. Augustine, FL; one sister: Melba Louise Sawyer, NC; three brothers: Roy Benefield, Orlando, FL; L. A. Benefield, FL, Thomas Mitchell Benefield, Jr., FL; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
