Helen Covington, age 80, resident of Smiths. Alabama passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Magnolia Manor, Columbus, Georgia.  Graveside services are scheduled at Lakeview Memory Gardens, Phenix City, Alabama on Thursday, June 25, 2020, 10 a.m. with Reverend Robb Goodman officiating, according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, Alabama.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 from 5-7 p.m. 

Mrs. Covington, daughter of the late Hubert J. Locklar and Allevia Thompson Locklar, was born March 27, 1940 in Pike County, Alabama.  She was retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Columbus, Georgia, where she faithfully worked for over 25 years.  Mrs. Covington was an active member of Summerville Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Adult Choir and also volunteered in the church office.  She enjoyed spending time gardening and taking care of her flower garden, also painting art.  Mrs. Covington loved her family, particularly her granddaughter.  The family remembers her as a gracious lady who passionately loved her family.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett “Jack” Covington; sister, Hazel Brown; and brothers, Vernon Locklar and Virgil “Red” Locklar.  She is survived by one daughter, Christie Nolin and her husband Steve of Smiths, Alabama; two grandchildren, Hayley Taylor and her husband Blake of Mobile, Alabama and Drayton Nolin and his wife Julianne of Rockville, Maryland; many other relatives and friends.
