Helen was born September 13th 1933 to the late William Alvin Courtney and Nellie Fay Miller Courtney in Plattin MO where she graduated high school. She later moved to Phenix City and started a career that spanned more than three decades at the Sunshine Biscuit plant in Columbus GA as a packer. Helen was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church for many years serving in various ministries. She was an outstanding cook and baker; her specialties were Red Velvet and Peanut Butter cakes. Helen enjoyed shopping and loved watching her grandchildren play ball and swim in the pool that was built specifically for her “babies” to enjoy.
Helen was deeply loved by all who knew her, and her love was unique. God must have given Helen to us to make everyone’s life complete, to make us well rounded, and better human beings. She has been a shining example of a Christian woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Helen is survived by her Husband of 44 years Lamar Spear, six children, Deborah Jones (Johnny), Arlington, TN, Ricky Allen (Linda), Valley, AL, Ronnie Allen (Cheryl), Crawford, AL, Jeffery Spear (Lou Jean), Phenix City, AL, Terri Atzbach, Phenix City, AL, Cynthia Ovdenk (Johnny), Chipley, FL; three sisters, Betty Allen, Diane Tindall, Carol Chason (Henry); 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
