Joyce Evelyn Owens

Joyce Evelyn Owens, 93, of Stokesdale, NC passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Saturday, November 18, 2023 beginning at 3:00 PM with Elder Greg Stewart officiating. A private interment will conclude at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, two hours prior to the service.

Joyce was born on July 17, 1930 in Webster County, GA to the late Robert Harvey Goodwin and Emma Ruth Snipes Goodwin. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Joyce was the office manager and bookkeeper for Owens and Taunton Professional Pest Control, a business which she and her husband Charles owned. After selling the company, they both retired and enjoyed camping and traveling through the United States in their RV.

Joyce was a wonderful cook and always a perfect hostess. Two of her favorite hobbies were reading and watching game shows. She also enjoyed listening to her favorite “crooners” Dean Martin and Perry Como. Joyce, without a doubt, loved and cared for her family immensely. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Other than her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Owens, Sr., daughter Karen Joyce Besterman, sisters Clara Emogene “Gene” Wells and Sibyl Wells, various aunt, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Survivors include daughters Sherry Petty of Stokesdale, NC and Kim Lewis of Columbus, GA; son Charles E. Owens, Jr.; 27 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
