Mary Louise Nolen, age 92, resident of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021, at Columbus Hospice House. Graveside services are scheduled at Lakeview Memory Gardens, Phenix City, Alabama on Monday, June 21, 2021, 1 p.m. with Reverend Robb Goodman officiating, according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N, Phenix City, Alabama.
Mrs. Nolen, daughter of the late Tom Toole and Rosa Lee Grubbs Toole, was born February 20, 1929 in Houston County, Alabama. She was a member of Summerville Baptist Church and had worked several years at Archer Hosiery Mill and Tom’s Foods until she retired. Mrs. Nolen enjoyed gardening; crafts; sewing; ceramics; and quilting. She also enjoyed spending time years back with her husband fishing, hunting, and camping. Mrs. Nolen is remembered by her family as a lady who was proud of her life, accomplishing so much without initially having many resources, and a lady who loved her family immensely.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Tom Nolen. Mrs. Nolen is survived by two daughters, Ann Knupp and her husband Jerry of Phenix City, Alabama and Shirley Melton, also of Phenix City; one sister, Mildred Dillion of Columbus, Georgia; one brother, Claude “Buddy” Toole and his wife Carolyn of Phenix City; three grandsons, Jim Knupp of Marietta, Georgia, Wayne Knupp of Houston, Texas, and Steven Wayne Melton and his wife Ashley of Deatsville, Alabama; five great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; many other relatives and friends.
