Mike Wilbourn, 70, of Phenix City, AL passed away Monday, July 1, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held 2:00 pm EST Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Rock Edmunds officiating.
Mr. Wilbourn was born July 5, 1948 in Fukuoka, Japan, son of the late John C. Wilbourn and Flora Jordan Wilbourn. He retired after 43 of years of service with Atmos Energy. Mr. Wilbourn proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Shane Wilbourn; two brothers, Warner J. Wilbourn and Gary D. Wilbourn.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Debbie Walker Wilbourn of Phenix City, AL; one daughter, Ashley Michelle Wilbourn of Phenix City, AL; two sisters, Jeannie L. Warren of TX and Catherine Dawson and husband Gordon of OH; three grandchildren, Michael Cole Dempsey, Dylan Blake Dempsey and Elizabeth Michelle Dempsey; several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Hebrews 4:15 says, “ For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tested in all respects as we have, but without sin.” Yes, Jesus endured sufferings when on earth, including the pain of losing a love one (John 11: 33, 35, 38). It has been promised from our God of comfort that sickness, pain, and death will be removed ((Isaiah 33:24; 1 Corinthians 15:26; Revelation 21:4,5). An additional promise given is that all our loved ones in the memorial tombs will awaken from asleep in death to enjoy life as our loving Creator purposed (Isaiah 26:19; Psalms 145:16). Allow these words to keep comforting all of you.

Yesterday, July 1, 2019, another fellow friend, co-worker, and member of our old fishing club from our earlier days with The Gas Light Company of Columbus has joined those who have gone Home before us to the care of God.
Six of us started the fishing club and later others were added. Four (4) of the fist timers are waiting on the boat for the others to show up and see how many fish they can catch, how much they can eat and yes, drink. (I always had a 2 bottle limit and was designated the driver. I was always the person who separated the fish into individual piles. I was trusted to be fair or I was the only one willing to pick up dead fish. Someone had to be that person.) Those fishing trips were always looked forward to. We had a banker, Charles Kennedy, who collected money every payday so we would be ready to go.
We are all looking forward to making that final trip to meet The Great Fisherman of men so we are storing up blessings for that day.
Our prayers are with you Debbie and the family as you celebrate Mike's Homecoming and grieve at his death. May God give you peace and comfort at this difficult time.
