William “Billy” J. Guthrie, Sr.
Mr. William “Billy” J. Guthrie, Sr., 78, of Phenix City, AL passed away Saturday, December 25, 2021 at his home.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, December 31, 2021 at Lakeview Memory Gardens Phenix City, AL with Allen Roelkey officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Guthrie was born October 9, 1943 in Columbus, GA, son of the late Timothy Jack Guthrie, Sr. and Evelyn Holton Guthrie. He retired with over 40 years of service to the Iron Workers Local 387. Mr. Guthrie loved to dance and was a long time member of the Bi-City Boppers. His other hobbies included fishing and working with electric trains.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Timothy Jack Guthrie, Jr. and Gerald Thomas Guthrie.
Mr. Guthrie is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Junita Ashmore Guthrie of Phenix City, AL; a son, William Joe Guthrie, Jr. and wife Amanda of Columbus, GA; a daughter, April Rodriguez and husband Louis of Phenix City, AL; three sisters, Louise Frazier, Mary Veltri and Frances Jones, all of Phenix City, AL; two brothers, Robert Lee Guthrie, Sr. and wife Grace of Columbus, GA and Charles Laugnton Guthrie, Sr. ; two grandchildren, William Joe Guthrie, III “Trey”, Robert Tyler Guthrie; nieces, Rachelle Newman Renteria (Jorge), Ariana Renteria, Ja’Nya Renteria, Alivia Renteria; nephews, Jorge Renteria, Jr. and Alex Renteria; sister-in-law, Georgina “Gina” Mitchell; as well as other nieces, nephews, extended family and many caring friends.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
