MSG Ret. Murray “Allen” Pledger, 85, of Smiths Station, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2020 at the Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral Services for Mr. Pledger will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday August 10, 2020 at the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home 3738 Hwy. 431 N. Phenix City, AL with Rev. Jimmy Boone and Special Friend Gary Leeds officiating the service. Interment will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Monday evening at the funeral home.
Allen was born in Hayneville, AL the son of the late William Curtis Pledger and Ruby Jewel Dodd Pledger. Later, Allen joined the United States Army and served his country as an Armor Crewman being awarded numerous awards and commendations including the Bronze Star. After his retirement from the military, Allen joined the Phenix City Police Department where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant prior to retiring after 20 years of service. Allen enjoyed gardening and was an avid NASCAR fan, often traveling to several major tracks a year. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by four brothers Lawrence Pledger, Edward Pledger, Wayne Pledger and Douglas Pledger and one sister Sue Busby.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 39 years Eleanor Hammond Pledger, four daughters Charlene Fitzpatrick of Inverness, FL, Diane Pledger Smith (Terry) of Smiths Station, AL, Donna Riley of Smiths Station, AL and Patsy Scarborough of Phenix City, AL; two sisters Barbara Jean Ennis of Auburndale, FL, Faye Hart of Virginia Beach, FL; one brother Howard Pledger of Brandon, FL; seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
