Patricia Ann “Pat” Shelton, 81, of Smiths Station, AL passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2023, in the comfort of her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm EST on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Mike Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home in Phenix City.
Mrs. Shelton was born January 23, 1942, in Columbus, GA, daughter of the late Marshall “Elmo” Long and Ruth Ann Griggers Long. She had worked for many years with Blue Cross Blue Shield in Columbus, GA, and with Cobb Memorial Hospital in Phenix City. In her younger years, she was an avid sportsman, she enjoyed playing softball and bowling along with many other sports activities. She admired nature and the natural environment that surrounded her home, seeing the many deer, turkeys, foxes, racoons, and beautiful birds that visited. She loved planting and tending to her flower garden and her vegetable garden, and anything to do with the outdoors. She was a huge Alabama Crimson Tide fan and attended many of the games. She was a Baptist by faith.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas E. Long.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, John David “JD” Shelton of Smiths Station, AL; one daughter, Kim Culpepper and husband Kenneth of Owens Cross Roads, AL; son, David Shelton of Smiths Station, AL; a brother, Marshall Long of Bradenton, FL; and three precious grandchildren, Dalton Culpepper and wife Marline, Noah Shelton, and Taylor Shelton, several nieces and nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
