Richard William Sharbaugh, also known as “Dicky” to some, left this earthly world on 25 April 2021 after a lengthy period of physical decline followed by a brief bout of viral pneumonia.
Richard, the son of Robert C. Sharbaugh and Mary “Pat” Glass, was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on 29 August 1943. While in Louisiana, he attended school, married Sandra Lee Sandefur, and became the father of his two children, Richard Kevin Sharbaugh and Rachel Marie Greene. From Louisiana he moved his family to Kentucky where he attended Bible College and became an ordained minister specializing in children’s ministries. He was himself a big kid at heart; a generous and gregarious spirit who throughout his life gave freely of his time, energy and talents to others. After his ordination he served on the staff of churches in Arkansas, Colorado, and Florida. Following his active ministry work, he engaged in various other forms of employment, but he will be remembered most by his family as a minister. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends and loved being on the water and “messing about in boats.” He was most recently a resident of Phenix City, Alabama, where he and Sandra moved to be closer to his daughter and two granddaughters, Haley Emma Russell and Lily Jane Greene.
His absence will be felt by his wife, children and grandchildren; his two brothers, Robert Sharbaugh and Fred Sharbaugh; his nieces and nephews; extended family by marriage; and a host of friends. The ashes of his earthly remains will be distributed and scattered at locations that were fondly held in his heart and a final memorial will be in Bunkie, Louisiana.
