Tim Thornton, age 61, resident of Phenix City, Alabama, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 30, 2021. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N/280W, Phenix City, Alabama on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, 2 p.m. with Reverend Mark Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 12 noon till 2 p.m.
Mr. Thornton, son of Shelby White Thornton and the late Albert Thurman Thornton, Jr., was born April 1,1960 in Columbus, Georgia. He graduated from Trinity Bible College, was a member of Aletheia GA, and served as a Chaplain for the Phenix City Police Department. Mr. Thornton was formerly employed with TSYS as a Lead System Program Analyst, where he faithfully worked for several years. He enjoyed spending time with RC cars; operating his HAM radio; and tinkering with electronics. Mr. Thornton loved having quality time with his family, fishing, grilling, and cooking meals. He also looked forward to those opportunities to fish, hike, listen to country music, and watch Sci-Fi movies. The family remembers him as a God-fearing man who loved Jesus, loved preaching his Word, and one who was a loving husband and father.
Mr. Thornton is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Ellen Thornton of Phenix City; mother, Shelby White Thornton of Columbus; two daughters, Nicole Cavanaugh and her husband Michael of Columbus and Tiffany Thornton and her fiance’ Wade Jones of Phenix City; one brother, Ken Thornton and his wife Nancy of Ellerslie, Georgia; one grandson, Lucas Cavanaugh; nieces; nephews; many other relatives and friends.
