Verlon Crenshaw Hurst of Chelsea, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on January 10, 2021 following a long battle with dementia. Graveside services will be held at Lakeview Memory Gardens, 3800 US Hwy 431N, Phenix City, Alabama, on Thursday, January 14, 2021, 1 p.m. with Reverend Wayne Honeycutt officiating, according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Hwy 431N, Phenix City, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 11:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. Mrs. Hurst was born in Jack, Alabama May 7, 1938. She later moved to Phenix City, Alabama and was a 1956 graduate of Central High School. Mrs. Hurst was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She moved to Montgomery in 1958 where she was employed at Union Bank and Trust Company for 35 years. Mrs. Hurst received a degree in banking from Troy State University. She was a beautiful, sweet, devoted, nurturing wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Hurst loved gardening, especially azaleas and begonias; family vacations; watching college football; and collecting anything with butterflies. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and oldies, especially Elvis Presley. Her family and friends remember her as always placing family and others before herself. She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Ruth Crenshaw; and her sister, Linda Gayle Coleman. Mrs. Hurst is survived by her husband of 64 years, Tommy Hurst; son, Joby Hurst and his wife Paula; brother, Johnnie Crenshaw and his wife Shawn; grandchildren, Benjamin and Anna Hurst; nieces, Angie Witle, Tracy Hampton, Vicki Eversman, and Suzanne Schwarting; nephews, Joseph Scala, Bruce Barr and David Barr; other relatives and friends.
