William Edward Kent, 61, of Upatoi, Georgia passed away Friday afternoon, August 25, 2023, at Piedmont Northside Hospital in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Rd., Columbus GA, 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 with Joe Young officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, August 29, 2023, from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Kent was born November 8, 1961, in Columbus, Georgia, the son of the late James Carl Kent and Ella Mae LaFrantz Scott Kent. After 30 years of dedicated service with the Columbus Water Works, William concluded his career as the Manager of Environmental Services. Throughout his tenure, he was heavily involved with many organizations and events. Some of these included GAWP, Help the Hooch, Rivers Alive, Oxbow Meadows, and Keep Columbus Beautiful. William was a true conservationist and an avid outdoorsman throughout his life, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing sports, especially golf, and softball. To say he loved Alabama football would be an understatement. William was well known for his excellent cooking and grilling, as well as his boiled peanuts.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister J. LaFrantz Kent-Bizio, and nephews William Rick Rabion and Jonathan Scott Rabion.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 18 years, Robin Gale Kent, daughter Jessica Kent Gibson and her husband Adam; son, Joe Young and his fiancée Jamie; sister Karletta “Keeta” Kent-Dimitri and her husband Timothy; grandchildren, Scarlett and Savannah Gibson; nephews, Brad Rabion and Tristan Kent; and many other relatives and friends. The family remembers Mr. Kent as a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend–and a mentor and leader to so many.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Sending condolences and prayers of God's comfort to William's (Bill) family and friends. God is close to the brokenhearted....Psalm 34:18.When I was an instructor at GWWI training across the state and attending conferences, William had always had kind and encouraging words. He was one of our industry experts and his legacy will live on through the lives he encountered and inspired.

I was blessed to get to know William over the years through GAWP, he was a friend and mentor, the kind of guy you are proud to know. He is and will be missed, your good soul now lives on in heaven.

I am extremely saddened by this news but thankful that I had the opportunity get to know him. Revelations 21:3,4- Our God Jehovah has promised to wipe every tear from our eyes and remove our enemy death forever! My prayers will continue in behalf of his family and friends.

R.I.P. William my good neighbor. We will miss you, Julian, and Wendy. Had many good conversations sitting on tractors while working on the road with you Brother.

Our prayers are to the family of William Kent who was the manager of 2 departments, WQM & ECD, for a number of years until they combined them and became Environmental Services. Always had his door opened for those who needed to talk. "You Say" by Lauren Daigle - He is now with the Lord and He believed.

I am so saddened to hear this news. I knew William very well throught GAWP. He was always upbeat, plesant, and great to work with as a water professional. Peace and comfort to you all.

In memory of William Edward Kent, Robin Barrow Benfield lit a candle

William was a pillar in the community and touched so many lives at CWW, the lab, Oxbow, Keep Columbus Beautiful, and so many more. He will be sincerely missed. Condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

I enjoyed being with William at GAWP board meetings, conferences, the BBQ competitions and football watching parties. At work, WIlliam's relationships with EPD regulators, college academics, community organizations, and other regional utilities were vital to CWW's success along with his vast knowledge of water and wastewater sampling and testing. He will be greatly missed!

William has been alongtime friend and associate. Our thoughts and parayer go out to his wife and family.

William has been a friend and mentor to me for over a decade. There are no words to describe this Loss. So many fond memories and experiences. William will be missed.
